Apply now for your indirect emission costs compensation for emission year 2025

Is your company in an electricity-intensive sector? You may be eligible for compensation for the indirect emission costs you incurred in 2025.
Who is eligible, for what, and how much?
Companies in a number of specific electricity-intensive sectors can apply for compensation for the higher electricity bill in 2025. This additional cost arises because electricity producers pass on the CO₂ costs from the European Emissions Trading System to the electricity price.
The compensation is a variable amount, calculated based on:
- electricity consumption, or
- the production volume of the installation.
The list of eligible sectors and the aid intensity remain unchanged for emission year 2025.
Why this compensation?
The Flemish government wants to partially compensate companies for the indirect emission costs arising from the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). This limits the competitive disadvantage compared to companies outside the European Union and keeps it attractive to maintain production in Flanders.
When to apply?
The application must be submitted by 31 March 2026 at the latest (this is always the end of March of the year following the emission year).
The application is no longer made via email, but exclusively via the digital application platform of VLAIO. Because various supporting documents are required, we recommend starting the digital application in good time. This way you have sufficient time to gather data and avoid last-minute problems. You can start a file and complete it later.
Prepare your application well!
Have the following information at hand:
- The completed Excel template with electricity consumption and production data;
- Any additional information about the installation;
- A bank account certificate (RIB) for the account to which the aid may be paid;
- The size of the company according to the SME definition;
- For small or medium-sized enterprises: the last two filed annual accounts;
- A practical guide is available with the application documents.
(!) Please note: you must not be a company in difficulty at the time of application or at the time of approval. If this was the case according to your last filed annual accounts, but the situation has since been rectified, please attach the necessary supporting documents.
